In the August 2012 Issue of Health Facilities Management, Editor Mike Hrickiewicz discusses that the tough job of transforming the health delivery system will have no reprieve anytime soon. External factors like the Supreme Court’s decision in June to uphold the insurance mandate but give Medicaid reimbursement responsibility to the states adds to the pressure. In response, hospitals are targeting 20 percent reductions or more in costs. Efficiency gains and verifiable costs savings are priorities shared by all hospital administrators going forward. Trends in design, construction, operations and maintenance can help achieve these gains.
