Challenge
As part of a system-wide Facilities Master Plan, University Hospitals engaged Array to provide programming and planning services to determine design options for a new Cancer Hospital to centralize the various cancer care components that were dispersed throughout their fourblock campus in downtown Cleveland.
Solution
In order to maximize the available footprint for the new hospital and its patient rooms, we recommended that the new Cancer Hospital be sited adjacent to the existing inpatient surgical platform which would be renovated to include an Interventional Platform.Demand analysis quantified the need for four additional operating suites, including an intra-operative MRI, along with a 10-position Pre / Post Recovery pod adjacent to the existing PACU dedicated to cancer patients.
Result
Since its opening in 2011, Seidman Cancer Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s top hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals rankings. In 2012, Seidman was Ranked 18th for their cancer care – this is their highest ranking since 2005, and an improvement of 18 spots from 2011 statistics.
