Laboratory

Rockland Research Laboratory

Challenge

With space needed to expand mission-critical patient care services, the research laboratories’ central in-Hospital location was a prime area to consider relocating off-site. Different from the clinical diagnosis labs, the research labs investigate illnesses and developmental disorders as well as new treatment hypotheses.

Solution

To balance the space requirements needed for the important research component offered by Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children with the mission-critical needs of the main facility, space off-site (yet conveniently accessible) was deemed the best solution to allow for the continuation of collaboration while allocating additional Hospital space for direct patient care.

Results

Directly across the street from the Hospital’s main entrance are buildings owned by the Hospital. Renovations to accommodate wet and dry lab functions as well as allow collaborative spaces provided more research space and previously unavailable in-department conference rooms and employee break space.
