Challenge
Automation and collaborative spaces are key in this multi-phased laboratory endeavor. Renovated and re-imaged a large area to support optimal workflow for the automated chemistry line to function most effectively for the entire Department. Overall, the Department completes 2.5 million tests annually and needed to be ready for steady increased demand.
Solution
Phasing this effort into 15 area-specific phases allowed the lab to stay fully functional while this multi-year construction project was completed. Upgrades to the HVAC system were also accomplished to accommodate the cooling requirements of new equipment.
Results
With increased throughput, the lab is now able to provide results in the most expeditious manner and serve more departments in their desired timeframes. Improvements to the phlebotomy waiting area and blood draw lab helped decrease patient wait times and created a better experience for veterans.
