Bed Tower

Challenge

As Baptist Health South Florida continues to experience growth, the need for a new patient tower to increase bed capacity became evident. Array was engaged to plan and design a new 214,926 SF five-story Bed Tower with a 240-bed capacity and expansion of the two-story Central Energy Plant (CEP). One of the design challenges was to identify family / visitor flow to the new bed tower from existing points of entry.

Solution

To create space for the new bed tower, the design program included the demolition of an existing Medical Office Building and relocation of related roadways and the renovation of approximately 8,000 SF to accommodate new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) support services.

Result

The newly completed Hope Tower connects to the existing facility on the ground level to provide visitor entry and direct access to surgery and emergency services. A bridge connection was designed on the 4th floor to allow direct access from the upper levels of the existing building, accommodating family / visitor to flow to the new bed tower. The initial program includes a 48-bed ICU on the ground floor and a 48-bed medical oncology unit inclusive of a USP 797 / 800 Pharmacy.
