CHALLENGE
Updated equipment and the newest technology was identified as crucial to meet increased demand in the Imaging Department. A technically-complex renovation to upgrade one MRI room and add another, while maintaining operations in adjacent spaces was necessary at this busy children’s hospital.
SOLUTION
Through planning exercises and in-depth involvement and coordination with client, consultants and vendors, the upgraded space meets the needs of the users and patients. Innovate designs, such as a split control room, allowed construction to complete quickly. A support space was added on the floor below for equipment maintenance. Coordination was key during each phase, especially with equipment delivery, with the MR machine entering through a removable floor slab and hoisted into place.
RESULT
With the addition of a 3T MRI to the suite, complete with variable color LED lighting controllable by the client, the Imaging Department is now capable of meeting daily MR demands. To further enhance the future of this space, a support space was added on the floor below for equipment and maintenance.
