Challenge
Fixed and frozen tissue samples, along with other delicate human brain specimen, increased the design and relocation challenge with varied space and technology requirements.
Solution
The Stanley Brain Collection contains multiple case collections for study. With its valuable collection increasing, the Institute identified the need to further consolidate and relocate its specimens. More than 100 freezer bank equipment items were moved in sequence and shipped “cold.” A new chemical control room was designed to ensure the expansion was code compliant.
Results
This strategically-conceived space collocates the tissue repository and the brain laboratory, streamlining researchers’ workflows. Office and Conference Room space offer collaborative areas. Multiple freezers and ample storage space enable future growth.
