Challenge
As this healthcare client continues to improve it facilities in the MidAtlantic region, a Regional Laboratory to facilitate service expansion and improve throughput became a priority. This 24/7 facility needed to coexist within a residential area and accommodate meeting space in addition to its clinical functions.
Solution
Slated to meet LEED gold criteria, the new building was designed to improve staff workflow and provide for inter-departmental collaboration with conference space and a modular, open space plan. Accessible outdoor spaces (i.e. courtyard, roof terrace and patios), coupled with the use of nature-inspired materials in the exterior and interior, provide staff break space as well as blend the natural environment with the interior
Result
Outside, the welcoming two-story building blends with the neighborhood’s scale and incorporates timeless nature-inspired materials. Inside, wayfinding was accomplished with inviting wall graphics, floor pattern changes and distinctive ceiling elements.
