Inpatient Pharmacy

Challenge

When a busy inpatient pharmacy requires upgrades and improvements, the team needs to evaluate several important questions: renovate in place, relocate and/or a combination of renovation and expansion.

Solution

The design team worked with Pharmacy users on workflow and deficiencies that needed to be addressed and determined that a relocation was the optimal solution – allowing the Pharmacy to continue operations uninterrupted while at the same time creating a larger, more efficient Pharmacy offering new services and an efficient workflow.

Result

The new Pharmacy features a USP 979 IV Prep space with two fume hoods and now has sufficient space for staff to efficiently fill medication orders for this busy veterans hospital. The open plan design includes sit-to-stand work stations and safety/security infrastructure.
