Challenge
For this six-story, 570,000 SF new hospital with an integrated 330,000 SF Medical Office Building, the Hospital’s Steering Committee tasked Array with creating an environment where patients and visitors would exclaim: “I can’t believe it’s a hospital” and asked Array to integrate a wellness component into the design of the new hospital.
Solution
Recognizing the mind / body / spirit connectivity, we strategically placed the Oasis Spa directly between the Outpatient and Oncology Registration desks. Modeled after spas found in five-star resorts, in addition to conventional treatments such as massage, facials, manicures and pedicures, the Spa offers wig fittings and alternative therapies such as acupuncture.
Result
An integral part of wellness is the sharing of information and educational outreach to patients and their families. The Wellness Center offers a resource center staffed with a librarian and access to medical journals and the internet. Incorporating evidence-based design elements, visitors and patients are delighted to discover the rooftop garden accessible from the infusion department and water features and sculpture elements throughout the campus.
LEED Gold Certified – Capital Health Hopewell is one of 28 hospitals in the country to receive LEED Platinum or Gold status.
